People who are homeless are disadvantaged with poorer health and lower life expectancy than those in permanent accommodation who lead more settled lives. They also experience difficulties in accessing the full range of health services available.

Health and homelessness are intrinsically linked. Physical and mental health problems are amongst the complex range of issues which can lead to homelessness. Homelessness and the lack of a stable and secure home setting can result in short-term and long-term health problems.

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie was at Sainsbury's at Forestside today to commend the developing relationship between the retail giant and Simon Community Northern Ireland.

Leading local charity, Simon Community Northern Ireland, has announced the appointment of three patrons to assist them in their work of addressing homelessness.  The three appointees, who are highly regarded in the fields of business and politics, were appointed in June.

Bangor Hairdressing Studio 'Strands' raised £2000 from the 'Hair-Raisers' Ball to support Simon Community Northern Ireland.  The Ball took place on 29^th May 2009 at Strangford Arms Hotel and included a dinner, ballot and auction and was widely supported in the local community.
