12 November 2010

Local charity for the homeless, Simon Community Northern Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of their Christmas fundraising initiative, StreetSmart.

It will help Simon Community NI continue providing the invaluable services they offer.

Noreen Kennedy, Fundraising Manager said 'The idea is simple; diners will be aware of the scheme through a special table card and at the end of their meal each table adds Ł1 to their bill.

This means if you visit a participating restaurant for your Christmas occasion you can make a difference to the lives of many homeless individuals and families, here in Northern Ireland.

We are indebted to local restaurants and their investment in this campaign, it shows that despite tough times; businesses are still willing to share resource and give to worthwhile causes.'

Noreen continued 'We are encouraging people to visit the restaurants taking part and enhance their dining experience by working to end homelessness in Northern Ireland.'

Local Restaurateur Michael Deane said 'Deanes are pleased to be taking part and to be doing our bit for the local community. Christmas is a time of year when our home and family are at the centre of everything we do.'

'But, if you have no home or perhaps no family, Christmas is a challenging time. Simon Community NI is then there to help.Taking part in StreetSmart helps us contribute to that.'

The scheme runs until Friday 31st December inclusive.
