"I have somewhere I can call my own"

20 September 2011

Steven used the freephone helpline to get in touch with us.

“I am a 19 year old male. I have an abusive step father and got kicked out five weeks ago.

I looked on the internet and found the Simon Community’s website. I read on the website about a place called the Foyer. The Foyer is especially for young people and I read that they could help me with training and employment. The website had a helpline which I rang.

That day, The Simon Community invited me down to the Foyer and explained that they had a room available. When I got the Foyer I was assigned a support worker, Louise. Louise has been helping me find volunteer opportunities to increase my skills through an organisation called Springboard.

I am feeling happy to be away from where I was living. I am relieved. Before now, I didn’t know where I was going to end up or where I was going.

I have somewhere I can call my own while I sort my life out.”
